Marcia Griffiths Ready to Go Another 40 Years
Marcia Griffiths celebrates her 40th anniversary in the business at the Hilton Kinston Hotel. The Reggae superstar was very candid with the ftar-studded room full of fans and peers to celebrate her triumph.
"I have sinned," she announced, "if it's a sin to feel this good, I have sinned," the reigning Empress of Reggae said at the launch of a year-long series of festivities to mark her 40th year in the music business.
The launch, which was more of a thanksgiving ceremony, was attended by the who's who of Jamaican entertainment, including Bob Marley's mother, Cedella Booker, former I-Three member Judy Mowatt, sax great Dean Fraser, storyteller Amina Blackwood-Meeks, leader of the Opposition Edward Seaga, and songbird Nadine Sutherland, all of whom delivered touching tributes to the most prolific woman in Reggae music today.
All sectors of the industry were represented, and singers Tony Rebel, dancehall 'Fireman' Capleton, dancer L'Antoinette Stines, filmmaker Barbara Blake Hannah, sound system operator Bunny Goodison, Jamaica Federation of Musicians president Desi Young, percussionist Bongo Herman, and producers Donovan Germain and Sonia Pottinger were some of the famous faces spotted.
"I'm going another 40 years! Yes! Listen out for me," she said. Look out for Marcia performing with Beres Hammond and Maxi Priest in Atlanta on May 22nd.
